    MPB, or something else?
Although I'm very obviously losing my hair, I've never sought a formal diagnosis by dermatologist or other. I'm curious how I would go about ruling out any other potential causes (i.e. thyroid problem, zinc deficiency, etc.)

Would I set up an appointment with my traditional doctor, then ask to be referred to a dermatologist who specializes in hair loss? Not really sure how to go about it, any input appreciated.

Well, its most likely what is, MPB.. I even had my mercury fillings removed, with a tiny hope that it could be hair loss related.. but nothing's ever that simple.

Depends where You are and what kind of health system You use. I guess, with the public healthcare system.. the procedure is as You described, first see a general practioner and he'll send You further on to see a dermatologist. If You go to a private practise, You can ask for dermatologist straight away. But the question is if dermatologist is the best choice in it all.. dermatologists by default treat wide variety of issues, their knowledge is wider but narrower on specifics - like hair loss. Maybe try finding a hair loss specialist/dermatologist, someone who only deals with hairloss.

Hope my thoughts helped in some way. Best of luck and take care.

Thyroid problems present more as patchy loss rather then overall loss and receding hair lines.

When I went to my GP about it and did say I'd like tests to rule out anything else and I think he ordered a thyroid test to humour me.
