I went for a HT consult and was told to take finasteride for a year and come back to reassess.
My question is. Should I be using minoxidil and Nizoral shampoo as well?
My fear is shedding on Minoxidil. Should I see what kind of results I get on Fin before adding minoxidil?

Shedding on Minoxidil is only a one time deal. It can go between twelve to sixteen weeks, on
average.

This is something I would run by your examining surgeon. While I don't think it would hurt to take minoxidil and Nizoral in conjunction with the Fin, it may not be necessary. For example, leading up to my hair transplant, I was instructed by Dr. Mohebi to take Finasteride (which I'm still taking over two years later), but he didn't feel it was necessary for me to take Minoxidil as well. Personally, I decided to see what kind of impact Fin would make before adding anything else - and that approach worked out just fine for me.

Surgeon seems pretty smart if he's telling you come back in a year. I'd deff check back with him in regards to minoxidil but nothing wrong with taking Nizoral shampoo! (ps- a secret is don't wash your hair too much)
