Thinking of switching to Dut from Propecia
    Hello all.

I have been on Propecia for around 4 years (most of that on finasteride but switched to name brand about 4 months ago) and have recently within the past 4-5 months seen the benefits slowly going away. It doesn't make much sense to me that switching from generic to name brand would cause a shed (or work less effectively), so that's why I am thinking the effects are just somewhat going away.

The main thing I am noticing is more diffuse thinning on top..still a lot of hair there but it just seems thinner and not to weigh as much.

These things have caused me to start using Lipogaine at night and Rogaine foam in the morning for the past 3 weeks...not much to report there but I think there is some shedding from the use.

I really want to try Dut but I read stories about people getting bad sheds and then no benefits after 6 months and nightmares like that. That doesn't make sense to me though because the clinical trials speak for themselves so I'm thinking those people might have gotten fake stuff? I was planning to stay on propecia and take Dut every other day or something like that. Money isn't much of an object.

Also might be interested in RU, but not too sure where people are getting it or how to use it. And if there is really any proof of it working...

    Thanks for any replies guys.

I too have had propecia benefits wear off after 10 years. While I thought of changing as well I have heard too many stories of massive dut sheds to take the risk so just keep on the propecia.

Yeah, but why didn't these stories show up in the clinical trials?? I honestly think people that had terrible sheds and it didn't grow back actually were taking fake medicine or something...That's why I want to stay on Propecia (or Fin) while taking DUT.

DUT blocks more of what is bad for hair pretty much plain and simple as I see it, so I don't see how it could make matters worse. There just really isn't logic in that.

Hmmm interesting. I mean at .5mg once or twice a week I don't think it would hurt to try. I'm at that 4 year mark too.

What would really make me happy is trying it, seeing good results, and being able to tell others about my experience in order to help them!

Does anyone know a for sure legit place to get it without prescription? I had a doctor call me tellin me he would write it for me, and I kept asking questions and by the end he didn't feel comfortable anymore with writing it! Should have kept my mouth shut ha. I think the main thing that worried him was insurance companies that saw a young man on avodart might consider me in the risk pool and that really would not be good at all

I started a thread recently about the idea of continuing fin but supplementing it with an occasional dose of dut. I wish there were more studies on this but in theory it seems like it should help. I think I am going to try it soon

thatkidd, some hair loss specialists will definitely prescribe Avodart for you. They don't necessarily have to be in the IAHRS either.

Yeah the one I see wont prescribe it to me though...he says he doesn't feel comfortable doing it for anyone. I live in Houston if anyone knows of any around here that might.

Is there a chance an insurance company could see that I had that prescription though and not cover me....I could definitely see that occurring.

I just want a legit place to order it online! I guess if a doctor wrote me the script and I used it through a Canadian pharmacy that might work, idk if insurance companies could see that.

I don't know how likely it is that your insurance would or would not cover Avodart. My guess is that it wouldn't knowingly pay for hair loss treatment of any kind. However that doesn't mean you wouldn't "slip through the cracks."
I always assumed I would have to pay for Avodart myself even if I had insurance but I guess it depends on a lot of factors.

Sorry, I should be more specific. I meant that in the future if I tried to get another insurance company to cover me, they might see that at one time I was prescribed a medicine for enlarged prostate and consider me in the risk pool and not offer health insurance. I am more than willin to pay full price for avodart.

Aren't there websites that offer "consultations" and then their doctor gives you a prescription and then they sell it to you? Obviously sounds illegitimate but I swear I saw that.

I don't know how an avodart rx would affect your insurance possibilities for the future. My guess is that you live in the USA like me. I do know in 2014, new health insurance laws will be in effect, which will make it illegal for companies to deny coverage for "pre existing conditions." The companies might put you in a high risk pool with a higher rate, but I believe the new laws will also limit how much you have to pay yourself (with public funds paying the rest of the cost). This is assuming Congress will not repeal the laws before they can become active.

I don't know if you can get a legitimate prescription from an online consultation. In at least some states, you have to see the doctor in person before being prescribed avodart. Maybe other states are different. One possibility is to email a doctor about it in your state and ask if you have to see them in person to get the rx.

Edit: I just remembered something. I was prescribed proscar, which is for prostate problems, as a cheap way to get finasteride for my hair. some time after this I applied for health insurance and was denied, and the company sent me a letter listing the preexisting conditions that they used to deny me. They did not list prostate problems or finasteride anywhere in the letter. So maybe the avodart wouldn't be a problem for you as far as getting insurance in the future. However I can't be sure, just sharing my experience with you.
