So I'm putting this case up for a couple of reasons.

First, this guy lives literally across the street from our office park. He stopped by and has some early growth at 4 months.

Second, his scar looks quite nice and should fade even more by the 1 year mark.

Third, even in a very fair skinned guy, there is essentially no erythema(redness) at 4 months.

And fourth, he has thin donor hairs, and this is what we'd put 2500 into. If he had thicker, wavier hair, and a better skin-hair color match, his count would have been lower.

We see a fair amount of people who have shopped around locally and many times my graft recommendation is higher than my local competitors. Part of our informed consent process is usually showing patients "similar" cases to their heads.... in this case, we showed a guy that I posted a few years ago, who had essentially the same case, but only needed 2000 grafts as he had thick wirey bushy hair that matched his scalp. For this particular fellow, had we have done a smaller case, I suspect at a year, he'd be thinner than he'd want to be with that white skin showing through.

Again he lives close, so I expect to put up pics a couple of more times to show the final result.

Great job Dr. Lindsey. Nice that you posted the strip too. Great set of photos. Looking very good at only 4 months. What density did you decide to go if you don't mind me asking?

I don't have a number on that density question handy. My usual routine is that once the techs have cut a hundred grafts or so, I'll make blades to make holes into which the grafts will fit nicely. Then, along the first 3/8 of an inch of the hairline, I just pack the slits as tightly as I can. That means that with thinner roots like this guy, there are more slits/cm than with an arab guy's thick and wavy hair with larger roots. Sorry to be vague, but that is why hairline work must be individualized.
