So I don't know what to think. I'm 23 years old and my family keeps telling me I have a growing bald spot, while my barber, who's worked professionally with hair for almost twenty years is telling me it's a cowlick and not to worry.
Personally, I use pomade in my hair all the time so I don't know if it's the pomade making the cowlick look even worse, or just an actual bald spot that's forming.

Definitely male pattern baldness. See a dermatologist to discuss treatment.

That does not look like a cow-lick to me at least. Have you had any major surgeries recently? How is your hairline?
That could either be MBP or just some other form of temporary hair loss
(Oh and Btw, that kind of lighting will make it look worse than it appears)

Hi, Jameson1. From the photos, the crown seems to be thinning. You have some choices to consider if you want to maintain the hair quality in this area. You can slow the recession down, but hair loss is progressive.

Thanks for the responses everyone.
No major surgeries at all and my hair line is fine actually. Really full in the front.
I've always had a cowlick there in the back, but I just recently discovered that's it's pretty thin.
I'm obviously new to the whole balding thing, so what is the best route? What's the big 3, etc? And is a hair transplant a course of action right now or should I wait?

The big three is propecia, rogaine and Nizoral.
Using all 3 gives you a 96% chance at improvement according to studies on minox plus fin success rates when paired.
You will have to use them forever or you will lose everything gained, and your balding will catch up to where it would have been if you never started.
The big three should help that area pretty easily. The front is the hard part.
Absolutely no transplant, shock loss risk not worth it for your very minor loss.
Make sure you give the big three at least a full year to work, hair growth is such a slow process.
