Styling thread

Ok, I'll go first:

I could conceal most of my hair loss (NW3 corners), if the damn hair would just always stay combed backwards, instead of just sticking straight up like a forest on an island. Especially since the forest is extremely thick (no thinning except in the corners), unbreakable, and a bit wavy. I sometimes towel-dry it, and then wear a hat for 30mins to hold it back, and it works pretty well, but it takes a long time, and probably causes traction alopecia if I do it every day.

Nothing else works. I tried these

Gel and spray: Keeps the hair back for a few minutes. The first breeze of air relieves the hair of its forced inclnination, and makes it look like a mess.

Wax: Holds a bit longer than gel, but makes greasier.

Paste: Don't know what the point of this stuff is supposed to be...

Clay: Holds somewhat longer than the others, but even so makes the texture look unappealing, as opposed to just keeping it shower clean.

If you aren't concerned about people (girls) running their fingers through it, I'd say hairspray might be an option for you. For most people, it takes very little to hold all day. You also style it dry, so you get maximum volume. If it doesn't work for you, then your out 5ish dollars. Good luck with your styling

You're hair is too long and is built to move in a different direction. You'll have to use something to hold it back.

At least you have thicker hair. I wouldn't mind recession if the remaining hair was thick(er).

Hairspray has pretty much the same effect as gel. Both of these prolly work if I had thinner and very straight hair. Mine's a little bit wavy.

I do use a hat to hold it back, after I dry it, for 30 mins, and it works really well as I said, no matter what lenght. But finding some compound/chemical would save me a lot of hassle AND promote less traction alopecia.

NotBelievingIt; yeah I wouldn't mind it much, if I would be one of those guys who benefit from forward-combed hair. But incidentally my face is just built in a way that combing the hair in the direction, into which it most naturally grows, just messes badly with the proportions. Considering a hair transplant just to avoid the need of combing it in any direction at all.

If you think you have problems now they will only get worse after a HT

Post some Pics

Shampoo with 1% zinc pyrithrione every 3rd day.

Rough towel dry hair.

Apply tiny amount of mousse to frontal lobe of hair.

Mess it up and lightly aim it in the opposite direction of my cowlick.
(I HATE when my thin, wispy bangs are laying there flat).

Try not to think about hair and function at school and work.

I'd worry about problems, if I was losing hair faster. But I'm 30 years old, and that NW3ish pattern has been there since 18, despite the transition away from the juvenile hairline, and I'm just thinking of a few hundred grafts for a bit improvement, instead of taking all the risks included with a full-blown NW1. But a decent styling solution might buy me a couple of years before pulling any triggers.
