16 years old. Am I balding or is it a mature hairline?

I know my dad had high temples most of his life. My moms side all have full heads of hair though. Should I see a specialist for it? My parents keep telling me "you'd be the youngest person to bald ever" which I know is bullsh*t.

I started to thin at 16. I have heard it start as early as 14. It is more and more common, we are not sure why.

For example, in Israel, we are seeing a trend of guys with genetic predispositions to MPB bald 15-20 years EARLIER than their fathers. One of the potential factors is stress due to mandatory army service.

I see guys on the bus on their way to high school in the morning with thinning. Many soldiers who are thinning... rapidly.

Most guys here either buzz, or shave. No wigs, too hot. Drugs, not covered by National Health, and Israeli men are way to over-sexed to worry about losing an erection from Propecia. Some guys due the micro-dot thing... always looks fake, and you are relegated to stubble for the rest of your life.

BTW... NO ONE EVER makes fun of a balding guy in a uniform and an M16!

    :)

With all due respect to your parents... they are incorrect.

By all means, see a Dermo. at least to get a "diagnosis".

It looks like MPB to me. How is your crown?

I know you are young... and it's hard, but you will need to make a decision at some point.

Just live with it, and say "**** it", and either buzz it, shave it... or just leave it (how you look in the mirror to yourself is the most important).

Or do you really want to start with drugs, rugs or plugs (way too early) at your tender age?

We are here for you man.

It happens(balding at early age) rare most of the time but it does happen. I don't think I would bother with a specialist. There is nothing they can do or recommend at your age. You can take %5 minoxidil if you want but most people won't get any regrowth and it typically doesn't work to well except on the crown. Propecia is not for anyone under 18. Just monitor it and try not to let it consume you! May want to consider a buzz cut at some point if it thins more.

Well I'm 6'5 so I've got a "manly" height goin for me, all the rest of my head is really thick. It's just my temples I'm worried about, my sides have always been a bit on the thin side. I scheduled to see a dermatologist. I'll rock what I've got I guess. It's not so receded that it makes my long hair look like shiet. Thanks everyone for the second opinions :)
