Just been to see my GP, here's what he said...

So I had to go to my GP for some eczema cream, while I was there i mentioned my concern about my hairline progressing and how I will be a likely candidate for hairless given my Dads hairless and my current state of hairless (NW2ish).

In a nutshell he said to me "There is nothing you can do to stop genetics, its a case of how you cope with it and the anxiety that can come with it."

Then looked at me although I had another question. So basically I was told there is nothing that can be done, when I know that isn't the case. I was HOPING that he would at least have an idea of something that COULD be done, even if not a recommendation to do so. If my GP can't even recommend a route to go down then it makes it even more difficult to feel although I'm making the right decision.

Is there someone I can go to for a professional opinion?

I went to two different doctors that told me pretty much the same thing. I had to push my doc to give me a prescription for fin. For hair loss being such a common problem, you would think they would be better informed on the treatments.

I agree with Jamie, get a second opinion. I would also do a lot of research on line. There is a ton of information out there on this very common topic but set your crap detector on high as there are a ton of scams out there. Lots of people promising the world for your money. There are also a lot of things that have promising results. Ask others in this forum what worked for them. Inform yourself first then see another doctor. Decide for yourself what risks your willing to take or what possible side effects are worth the result. I'm sure your GP would give you a script for whichever med you wanted to try. Hope this advice helps.

I currently got alopecia areata come up lol, funny thing my doctor said I can't get injections in this country, yet did he know in the past they refereed me to dermatologist who told me we could. Anways I'm taking my girlifriend with me tommorow and il be making sure they refer me because she's a medical manager in pharmaceutical field, so she knows how to handle the talk just like she did last time. Some of these bloody doctors lie so much it boils my blood!

A GP is just that a general practitioner and unfortunately they dont take hair loss as serious.

You could see a specialist as there are various options for alopecia as well as nature taking course.

If you have Male Pattern Baldness - there is no known reliable cure, but there are solutions including hair systems which will give you the quickest route to a full head of hair.

I did not have to PUSH my GP into prescribing Finasteride to me approx 9 months ago.
Actually, he seemed to be very positive in prescribing it for me.
He went on to say that he has prescribed it to MANY of his patients , all of which experiencing positive results ...Some minor some major and plenty others in-between.
None of which experiencing serious side effects either! By the way, Fin' has been very good for me!!!!

Your doc must have had more experience dealing with hair loss than mine did. When I asked him about options to stop my hair loss, he pretty much said there was nothing I could do. I asked him about propecia and he was hesitant to write me a prescription. I asked him if it was because it wasn't safe or I wasn't in good health, but his main concern appeared to be the ongoing price of $75/month. I am so glad he didn't talk me out of taking it.
