Am I balding at 20 and should I start taking finasteride ASAP
    Hello,

I am a new user, 20 year old male and unsure of whethe ror not I am balding. I feel that my temples and hairline have gradually receded since I turned 18. My hair overall is till thick and no hairloss at the crown at all. Balding runs half in my family as I have male family members witth full heads of hair at 70 and others who went bald in their late 30s.

Ive went to a family doctor who says that I do in fact have male pattern baldness, however when I went to an actual dermatologist he said that it was false and I dont have male pattern baldness, leaving me confused.

Do I appear to be balding or moving up on the norwood scale? I wanted to k ow so I could start taking finasteride right away if need be.

hello saimee10, from what i can see you dont appear to be balding. your hair looks good still and fairly thick. I doubt you need to take any finasteride at the moment. Its good that you're proactive about it because men tend to not realize theyre thinning or going bald till they've lost about 50% of their hair. I started to lose my hair when i was 19 but it didnt become visible till i was 22 years old due to comments from friends and family.

Thanks for your input! Should I keep an eye on the temple area, since it does seem thinner than the rest of my head.

i would say yes, if you do start to see miniturization of your hair getting on medication would be smart in order to preserve your hair and even possibly regrow.

Thanks for the advice. I have seen some miniturization/thinning of my hair since i was 18, near my temples/hairline area. Is this considered normal or would it be advisable to start medication to counter this?
