What is causing my scalp flakes?

I have small white flakes in my hair, but also these big greasy kind of translucent ones. The bigger flakes seem to peel directly off my scalp. I don't know what the cause is- is it just dandruff, dermatitis, or could it be from minoxidil foam? Are there different treatments for each one or is just a good shampoo sufficient?

The only way to know exactly what it is and what is causing it is to meet with a dermatologist. I've had complications with a sensitive, dry, flaky scalp my entire life, and it's taken a lot of trial and error to keep it under control. The bigger translucent flakes sound like dandruff, and the smaller ones seem more indicative of dry scalp - which are two completely different things. Try different over the counter shampoos, make sure you're using natural, gentle products, etc.

One thing I've found is that I'm allergic to certain brands/hair products that make my scalp breakout. When I have outbreaks like this, I put Apple Cider Vinegar on my scalp and it helps balance out the PH levels and cures over night. Organic Coconut Oil applied directly to the scalp has also helped me a ton.

I think there must be different treatment cuz its not as simple problem as you think. Just consult with a dermatalogist as soon as possible.
