This fellow got 2200 grafts in a conservative hairline pattern last May. I saw him once for a scar check and he was driving through our area last Friday and called to see if he could come by for a picture.

He's 12.5 months out, and I think still has a little more to thicken up. He looks good and says he's very happy.

I would point out that while I agree with his assessment, that I think his thin donor hairs are the primary limitation in creating a "wall" of hair at the hairline. Although it appears we packed about 1000 singles in that first 3/8 of an inch at the hairline, he's still not as packed as I personally would have liked, although he says he is fine with it.

I point this out for one reason. My graft recommendations to our potential patients seem higher than my nearby competition. As I explain to patients, its really not my desire just to have a higher graft count to get more money...but rather to pack enough hair in that we are all satisfied withthe hairline. For many patients my philosophy of hair being like sex and money applies...the more the better.

Looking back, I would have done the exact same case, I think it would have been difficult to have packed more at the hairline without using multis...which I think don't look appropriate at the hairline margin in my patients.

So, to conclude, this fellow is happy, and so am I. But this thin donor hair'd example shows a bit of the limitations that the patient's donor hair characteristics bring to the equation.
