    Temporal Recessions – 11 day post-op results
    Age: 30

    Clinical History:
Jazmin is a 30 year old female patient with concerns about her hairline and the temporal recessions that she has. She states the she started losing hair in these areas at about age 21 or 22 years of age, and that it was perhaps worse in the past 3 or 4 years. She has a job in television, and wanted a fuller and more youthful hairline. She said she felt self-conscious about her hairline and the recessions on each side, and that it affected how she felt about herself. She also stated the she feels the hair loss is hampering her chances for advancement in the television industry. She is in front of a camera as much as possible, and wanted to feel more confident in her appearance to increase her chances of becoming a news anchor at the station.

    Clinical Decision Making:
Jazmin’s hair loss is not too advanced, but since hair loss is progressive in nature, it is nearly always prudent to initiate some preventive therapy in cases of androgenetic hair loss. We spent a significant amount of time discussing the importance of preventive therapy and discussed Rogaine®, platelet-rich plasma with ACell® (PRP with ACell®) therapy, as well as low level laser therapy (LLLT). She elected to start LLLT with a Capillus® 272 laser cap, and will wear the cap 3 times a week for 30 minutes per session.

She also elected to proceed with a hair restoration procedure to fill in the temporal recessions on each side of her hairline. We reviewed the location of the planned hairline, as well as what would take place on her surgery day. She was given all of the pre-operative instructions and all of her questions were answered in full.

    Surgical Intervention:
Jazmin Cabrera had one single linear strip procedure with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) with ACell® on April 29, 2016, performed by Dr. Ken Anderson, at the Anderson Center for Hair in Atlanta, Georgia. She received a total of 1,017 follicles which were transplanted to each of her temporal recessions. These pictures show the look 11 days following a procedure, on the day of her suture removal appointment.

She was very surprised at how easy and painless the procedure was, and said to me when I was removing her sutures that the procedure “was less intense than having Botox®.” In addition to the linear strip hair restoration procedure, just like every surgical patient at the Anderson Center for Hair, she also had a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) with ACell® treatment, as well as micro-needling in the recipient area using some of her platelet-poor plasma (PPP) at the time of procedure. The remainder of her PPP was used on the implanted grafts following the procedure. I feel the benefits of a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) with ACell® treatment in conjunction with a hair restoration procedure are so positive for the wound healing that I don’t operate without using PRP with ACell® unless a patient specifically declines; there is no extra charge for a PRP with ACell® treatment with any hair restoration surgery at my center.

    Results:
These pictures were taken 11 days following her hair restoration procedure, at the time of her suture removal. Many patients wonder what they will look like following the procedure, and so this is a representative photograph of how the grafted areas look 11 days following a procedure. The grafts would look the same following an ARTAS® FUE procedure; the main difference between a linear strip hair transplant procedure and an ARTAS® FUE procedure is how the follicles are removed from the donor area. The appearance in the recipient area looks the same with both procedures. Jazmin is thrilled with her new hair and is looking forward to them growing longer. She will continue low level laser therapy (LLLT) with a Capillus® brand LLLT device to limit future hair loss. I will see her back at 12 months when the hair has grown in, or at any time prior to then if she would like me to have a look at the progress.
