Any way to prevent swelling of the forehead?
Hi. I am new to this site and doing research for a hair transplant (preferably FUE). Does anyone know about new techniques/technology that can prevent swelling of the forehead? That side effect is the main reason for me holding out on the procedure.

Not really. Many mistakenly confuse swelling being due to the process of tumescence, which isn't the case. Swelling comes from the body's reaction to trauma, much like when you twist your ankle. The body produces edema to cushion the area from further damage and this is what happens when you have facial swelling. Part of it is due to gravity taking over once it develops and this only makes it worse so you at best, you can minimize it's effects by sleeping upright for the first few days after surgery and you can literally push it down as it forms. In general, you can't tell who will get it as it is fairly random, but when it does happen, it usually peaks by day three after surgery and is gone by day six. It is something you should just plan for and feel lucky if it doesn't happen.

Thank you, Joe, I really appreciate the detailed answer. I live in Canada too - do you know someone in Montreal who has a great record with hair transplants?

No, sorry. Canada has slim pickings regarding proper HT talent.

Well said. Canada may have slim pickings indeed.

I am sure the OP can find doctors that take ethics, patient safety, and honesty seriously though. Vancouver may be a good spot though.
