Hair specialist doctors: Is this simply due to male pattern baldness (PICS)?
I had a nearly full head of hair last august 2009 (there was a bit of thinning near the crown and that's about it) and by mid-winter 2010, my hair was at this stage (I was under intense stress during that time).

I've been taking propecia and using rogaine every night for 8 months but haven't seen any regrowth. Sure, fine, my hair stopped falling out, but its current state is still far from acceptable. I look at this picture and want to off myself. This is one week after having buzzed it all off with a #2 buzzer. The top of my head looks like that of a 60yo man but I'm 23!!!!! And I used to be incredibly good-looking!

EDIT: I've attached another pic of my head/hair from the summer of 2009 (before operation superfast hairloss began)

I guess I'm hoping for some doc to tell me that I actually have a systemic medical problem that can be easily fixed and all my hair will grow back within weeks...

P.S. I've seen 2 dermatologists. Neither asked me any questions about how fast it happened, etc. They took a quick peek at my head, prescribed me propecia and sent me on my way.

Obviously you would hope for a more thorough examination from the dermatologist, but I'm afraid they probably immediately recognized male pattern baldness and gave you the best treatment currently available. You lost hair very fast, but that does happen in aggressive cases. You appear to have a typical diffused hairloss pattern.
Stop all this talk about offing yourself. If you were good looking before then you'll still be good looking now. How do you look completely shaved?

The propecia might still provide some regrowth over the next few months. Have you considered Rogaine? Personally I don't use it, but it's something I would jump on if my hair took a turn for the worst.

Do you have a strong family history of male pattern hair loss? Increased stress levels has been known to excellerate genetric hair loss. Do you have a healthy diet?
