I'm wondering what your thoughts are on options for wearing a hair piece if you have quite a bit of diffuse hair left. Is it an option to shave it and then wear the piece or would that do too much damage? Also, what possibilities are there with a clip on piece?
Mixing a hair system with hair

I have the same questions, I have an appointment at a hair clinic. They are going to go over hair systems with me. I really want a full cap because I'm unhappy with the diffuse thinning and the fine hair on the sides of my head. I might just go for a 3/4 cap for now, but this coming Wed I have an appointment to talk with a specialist. I'm really exciting because I know hair systems today are amazing, and pretty much undetectable. I just need to know the right kind, style.. etc.. -
I use a clip in topper for special occasions when I want to look the best I can. It attaches behind my hairline so it is completely undetectable.Comment

Originally posted by William Yates, MDI always think it is a good idea to graft the hair in the hairline an then wear the system behind this. Trust me, everyone's eyes will gravitate to the hairline to determine is the hair is real. This little trick works well if people with very thin hair. Movie stars have been doing this for yearsComment

I always thought Sean Connery had convincing looking hair pieces though.

I've heard otherwise. I had my appointment last week at a hair clinic. I was amazed, systems today look amazing. I ordered a partial hair system to cover my disgusting thinning top, I'm very excited to be able to have hair I can style and not always have to shave it short and rub concealer on my hair.
So after they explained everything to me I thought it was too good to be true.. and of course there was going to be a catch. The price for the system was expensive, I was expecting that.. but the cost for it to be maintained was much less than what I pay monthly for medication that can only slow my hair loss.
I'll wear a hair system, no problem. I've basically been wearing one with hair loss concealers... not really a difference except the fact that a system looks a hell of a lot better.
I'm not expecting a miracle, just an improved look that will help me deal with hair loss and let me focus on life more.
I will post pictures in 4-6 weeks when it arrives and has been cut in.Comment

Once have a prosthetic that is properly fitted you can use that to get the same quality prosthetics elsewhere but you will need to learn how to clean and maintain them yourself.Comment

You do not know that it can only slow down your loss. Many have stopped their loss and many regained hair that was lost. I don't understand why you are so insistent about ignoring that reality. But whatever makes you happy. Believe whatever you want to believe.

I must have confused you with someone else. I was thinking it was much less than a year.
Yes, if you have been treating your loss for that long and you are still losing ground, a hair system is probably a better option for you. There is nothing wrong with wearing hair if it helps you feel better about yourself.Comment

I'm just nervous about the blending issue.. I still don't really understand how they can blend it in with your hair, and still be able to shower/swim and do any other activities without it blending out of place. Thats why i asked about a full cap, but he advised its best always to use as much as your own hair, full cap is last resortComment

I had dinner with an old friend last night who has been balding since we were in college. He walked into the restaurant with what appeared to be a full head of hair and he looked great! I was astonished and of course asked what he had done. He had his hairline transplanted and was wearing a really good piece behind it, and I am telling you no one in the real world would now it. He said it is life changing for him. I asked him about life restrictions and such and he told me that as long as he maintains it well, he can swim, enjoy the beach and do whatever he did without it. He said you just have to be aware that it has to be freshly attached before you do those things. He said the hassle is well worth it.
So there you go, I bet people are doing this all the time and we just don't realize it.Comment

I do know another guy who wears one, but it's most likely a cheap one because no person I have ever seen can part their hair without scalp showing. I worked with this guy for around 5 years and there was a definite foul odor associated. Perhaps one day, 3d printable hair will be available, engineered to be compatible that resists rejection rejection and immune response.
