What if your donor hair is different color and type of hair than balding hair?

I have light brown hair on the top of my head which is straight. However, my donor hair is dark brown and curly when it grows out beyond a #4. It seems like this would be problematic for a HT.

What are the possibilities for HT in a case like this? I'm afraid they don't seem very good.

I'm concerned about this as well, as my my hair on the sides and back is quite a bit thicker and a little wavier than my hair on the top of my head.

Yes, this can create a bit of a thicker curlier hairline than the hairs behind it. Generally, when facing this situation, I will do 2 things- one is to place some grafts into the surrounding minimally thinning scalp to blend it in, and second is to seek out the donor area where the hairs are potentially the finest and transplant lots of single and double hair grafts, placing the very finest hairs into the front almost hairline.
