    I took the Propecia Plunge

I gave in after meeting with my dermatologist last week. After six months on minoxidil with more diffuse thinning than before I started the treatment I've decided to try finasteride. I picked up my prescription for $8 and cut my 30 5mg finasteride pills. I took the first one tonight. I will continue to take the drug for at least year and will have to drop it once I get married as my derm said I probably should not be on fin if I'm going to have a child. Therefore, after marriage I will have to be off the drug.

I will post my results as time goes on.

I just started a couple weeks ago too. I started at a baby dose - .25 mg ed. I have told myself its too small a dose to get sides - therefore I won't get sides

        Thinning,

Any benefits gained from taking the drug will all be lost over a relatively short period of time once you stop taking Finasteride.

I know this. However, I'm not willing to risk birth defects to children, even if the studies say it is safe. For religious reasons I will be open to having children at any time during marriage so I really can't plan when to go off the meds when trying to conceive. For that reason, once I'm married I will stop taking finasteride.

Two weeks in, no side effects to report of as of now. Keep in mind I don't intentionally ejaculate but my erections are normal.

Good luck, shall follow your progress, tempted to take the plunge myself sometimes.

Just over a month in and everything seems normal. I'm still using minoxidil and seeing the usual shed in the shower and when I use minox. I will update again in a month or sooner if something warrants an update.

That's a really interesting and kinda unusual position to be in these days. People like to come up with theories why young balding is on the rise and one thing that sometimes comes up is whether sexual images everywhere and internet porn etc is sort of an early trigger for the predisposed people.

Then again hormones will be there to some degree regardless, but if you're in the unusual position of never acting on them but still noticing hair changes that's interesting information to share with people.

Hope the medication is going well!

Can I just point out that no mind can overcome the mechanism of a drug. If you are susceptible to sides, you will suffer them. I think the myth that side effects is "mind over matter" needs to be put to rest once and for all. This is drug that works by changing the hormones in your body. Could it be any more obvious that when side effects are reported it's because the changes caused by the drug are because damage has been done.

And the mind surely isn't capable of inducing gynaecomastia is it? Sides will surely come whether you fear them or not, if one is susceptible?

Of course the mind is capable of influencing whether or not you PERCEIVE you are experiencing sides.

If not, why do control group subjects receiving a placebo report sides???!!!

                            Breast enlargement isn't a placebo.

                              Hey Thinning,

I've kept my eye on this thread, and I'm glad you're coming back to report. Hope you continue to do so.

Do you have a thread where you give your background (age, current NW, current treatments.)?

Curious about those types of things with fin users and their outcomes.

                              Regards.
