A side scrolling strategy game that still holds up beautifully

I have been playing https://swordsandsoldiers.com/ on and off for a while and honestly it is one of the most entertaining side scrolling strategy games I have come across. You take control of one of three factions, the brutal Vikings, the devious Aztecs, or the crafty Chinese, and battle across two dimensional battlefields to demolish your enemy's castle. What I really like is how each faction has a completely unique playstyle, the Vikings can heal their units, the Aztecs can raise the dead, and the Chinese can clone their troops, which adds a lot of strategic depth. The campaign is solid, but the skirmish and multiplayer modes are where it really shines, especially when you are playing against friends. The challenge modes are also a great way to test your skills. It won several awards back in 2009, including Best Game at Europrix, and it still feels fresh today. If you enjoy strategy games with a bit of humour and a lot of replay value, this is definitely worth a look. I have already recommended it to a few friends who love similar games. Give it a try.
