    Hair Falling Out After IVF?

After my most recent IVF treatment, I observed something odd. I was shedding more hair than normal. At first, I thought it could be stress or simply a coincidence, but it is increasing. It’s beginning to impact my confidence and I can’t help but wonder if the hormones or meds had a part to play in this. I’m currently trying to find the most helpful advice or cure from those who’ve gone through the same thing, in hopes of finding relief and reassurance.

    Hi Hayden2234,

I completely understand how upsetting unexpected hair shedding can be, especially after IVF can feel like yet another thing out of your control. Hair loss after fertility treatments is actually not uncommon. Hormonal fluctuations, particularly the sudden drop in estrogen after IVF, can trigger something called telogen effluvium, which causes temporary shedding. Stress and medications can also play a role.

The good news is that in most cases, this type of hair loss is temporary and hair usually starts to regrow within a few months. In the meantime, you might try:
    • Gentle hair care: avoid excessive heat, tight hairstyles, or harsh chemicals.
    • Nourishing your scalp and hair with mild shampoos and conditioners.
    • Maintaining a balanced diet with enough protein, iron, and vitamins.

If shedding continues or worsens, it's worth talking to your doctor or a dermatologist - €”they can check for any underlying deficiencies and offer treatments like topical minoxidil if needed.

You're definitely not alone in this, and your hair will likely bounce back with time and care.
