This fellow came in this morning and had done a great job cleaning. Although he has light hair and skin, so its a bit harder to see the grafts than with darker or thicker hairs, he really did a nice job of walking that fine line between not cleaning enough and pulling out my grafts...
Its important for our patients to clean postop. I completely believe, but at present can not prove, that when people do insufficient (or more likely no) cleaning...that the crust gets so thick and strong that its stronger than the attachment of the grafts into the scalp...and thus when the crust breaks off it pulls out some hair....
We encourage all of our patients to come in once or twice during the first week to either get cleaned OR to simply have us tell them if they need to do more.
I hope this is helpful to our patients.
