You DEFINITELY have hope, especially because you might not even be suffering from androgen alopecia.

Worst case, and you are, the vertex is the BEST place to have androgen alopecia. In fact, both Finasteride and Minoxdil were FDA approved/tested on the vertex only (but both work on the hairline as well, depending on the individual).

Take it from someone who has been balding for a long time, and has seen MANY photographs of people who are balding as well.

Best of luck. Personally I think seeing a doctor will help you put your mind at ease (because you might not have androgen alopecia, hopefully you don't).

Thanks for the reply.

I seem to be thinning everywhere even on the sides and back. And my head is always itching and burning. Is that common with Male Pattern Baldness?

I have been doing a ton of research and fear I may have retrograde alopecia...

Donor area is thinning..

Are you on Finasteride?

Hey!

Yes. Do what people are suggesting. Take finistaride. And.. start saving up for an FUE procedure on your crown.

That's what I did. Best decision of my life.

Just liquid Finasteride. Occasionally I use one milligram of solid Propecia.

If you have retrograde alopecia, it is from tight hairstyles. Don't really
know a lot about that.

What I do know is that long hair in itself doesn't cause baldness.

It has to be a tight hairstyle, and pulling.

Hello Chippy!!
First of all, how old are you and what exactly is your scalp's issue?
It would be good to see photos of your hairline so that I and other helpful members here could really know what to say to help you.
Also, there is no need to show your face but that is up to you.
You wont be criticized here Chippy.
B231, it would be good for you to do the same.

By the way, I have started a RU58841 + Minoxidil treatment two weeks ago. I will let you know if I see any positive effects in the coming weeks...

Thank you, I know, but I want to stop there. I don't want to wait when it's already too late. My father lost all his hair at 50 !

Finasteride is proven to work. Some guys have resistance for DHT reasons. We have to do what we feel comfortable with.

Use the Minoxidil all over the hairline, even though the box says vertex only. It will work there if there is recently lost hair. After some time, unfortunately, hair might not grow back. (Same is true for both hairline and vertex).

There are guys in their mid twenties who have bounced back from Finasteride and Minoxidil. They actually jumped down a couple of scaled on the Norwood.

Look up hair loss experiment, or from Date Line on youtube. They have men who used the products over a year. There are identical twins who used different hair loss methods. Both jumped a lower number on the Norwood scale. But one twin clearly had better results than the other.

Good luck.

I have heard that Finasteride may decrease libido. This is why I did not want to try... :)
