Dr. Carlos K. Wesley (http://www.drcarloswesley.com) was selected to provide a comprehensive overview of the field of surgical hair restoration to fellow physicians worldwide. By serving as the primary author of "Hair Transplantation (http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1125284-overview#a1)" for WebMD (http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1125284-overview#a1) (owners of both Medscape and eMedicine), Dr. Wesley is responsible for highlighting the most recent advances (http://drcarloswesley.com/innovations.html) in an objective manner. This online resource for physicians and other health professionals features peer-reviewed original medical articles and presents a translation of the body of current research into clinical practice guidelines with the perspective of each subspecialty.

The WebMD/Medscape Reference is the most authoritative and accessible point of care medical reference available to physicians and other health care professionals on the Internet. WebMD/Medscape Reference has a worldwide audience, including all of the 192 UN-recognized countries as well as other states and territories. The site is part of the WebMD Professional Network, which receives an average of 1.5 million physician visits per month.

The evidence-based content, updated regularly by some 7,000 attributed physician or health care provider authors and editors, provides the latest practice guidelines in 38 clinical areas. A 2009 study showed 89.1% of physician specialists respondents accessed peer-reviewed material online, including WebMD and 12% used WebMD as their first source when conducting research online.

Dr. Wesley composed the updated review article entitled, "Hair Transplantation Overview (http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1125284-overview#a1)" that is featured in the dermatology section of the physician reference site. All content in WebMD is available free of charge for professionals and consumers alike. The article may be viewed here (http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1125284-overview#a1).

Dr. Wesley, please provide your comprehensive review of the donor area. Any assessment of any surgical harvesting procedure should begin with a comprehensive assessment of the donor area. Your assessment should coincide with prior assessments which are quite detailed. Start here and progress from there. This is how we will begin to formulate the veracity of your claims. Recognize that we are very attuned to fact vs. fiction.

In response: One of the limitations of general overviews in Medscape and eMedicine is that articles often only scratch the surface of each topic. Therefore, patients who are more interested in a more comprehensive review of Hair Transplantation are welcome to check out the Hair Transplantation chapter in the premier Plastic Surgery textbook of 2013.

Dr. Carlos K. Wesley (http://www.drcarloswesley.com/results.html) (NYC) also served as the primary author for the in-depth "Hair Transplantation" section in Grabb & Smith's Plastic Surgery (http://www.drcarloswesley.com/updates.html#GrabbSmith) (7th Ed) 2013.
