View Full Version : Okay guys I need your advice

04-30-2013, 03:18 PM
My hair has been depressing me for quite awhile. Should I just give it #1 buzz or what? I'm a bit lost here guys and could use some support!

04-30-2013, 05:59 PM
With 70+ views and no replies I'm even more lost. How hard is it to say, "Yeah, I think a buzz will do you some good" or "No, you don't have the right skull shape for a buzz"

Something, anything. Come on guys, help me out

04-30-2013, 06:26 PM
Buzz it for sure. Or at the bare minimum cut the sides/back way shorter.

Having hair > Buzzed/shaved > grown out with diffusion

As for your skull shape, there is absolutely no way for us to discern what yours is like with what you've provided. Unfortunately, I'm uncomfortable with the shape of my skull. Regardless, I'm shaving when it gets to where yours is at.

04-30-2013, 06:27 PM
well to start with can you tell us how old you are?:)

04-30-2013, 06:37 PM
You would look great with a #1 or #2 all over.....You are handsome.

04-30-2013, 06:40 PM
I just turned 21. Thanks for positive feedback

04-30-2013, 06:49 PM
You'll survive, brah. Shave it off, hit the gym, and consider treatments if you want to maintain stubble up top for a while.

First let me start by saying that I consider myself a long time member here, if not by way of join date, at least by way of post count. And I too could make a thread and get 0 replies in days of it being around. So what i'm trying to say is, don't get down because you made a thread one day and got 0 replies that day.

Okay now my feedback, I buzz my head with a 1 guard and it minimizes the appearance of my MPB as much as possible, though my receding hairline is noticeable and I can no longer hide my MPB. The one guard is the best haircut for us diffuse NW3-4's with receding hairlines.

I suggest to get on finasteride 1mg a day and Rogaine twice a day. I think with your hair loss, if you use these two for a good period of time, 8-12 months, you will see good thickening of your hair.

04-30-2013, 08:33 PM
You can also try to just shave the sides and back lower than the top.

05-01-2013, 10:28 AM
Well I went to the barber and got the #2 all the way around. Should I have gotten the #1? What do you guys think? The hair on the sides is obviously darker than what's left on top.

05-01-2013, 12:02 PM
Well I suggested a #1 for that very same reason. A #1 would most likely blend your top hair with your side hairs and minimize the appearance of your thinning hair. Most likely just give you the look of a badly receded hairline, instead of receded hairline + horseshoe pattern.

BTW, if you're not going to get any lineup or anything like that, why not just shave your own head? I have not been to the barber shop since I was a teenager. There's no point in going because i'm not going to get anything fancy. Why pay $10 or what ever it is they charge now, for nothing, basically something you can do on your own? Just get your own hair clipper and do it yourself.

Yeah, you should just #1. But, I will say the #2 looks way better than what it was before. And kudos on taking necessary steps.

As someone said above, invest $70 in a pair of clippers and just cut it yourself every other day for a fresh, clean look.

Looks better, guy.

05-01-2013, 03:49 PM
I'd have said leave it alone, grow your beard out to ten days' growth, and invest in a better wardrobe, but that's just my two cents. It all depends on who you are and what you want to convey to the world.

05-04-2013, 07:05 AM
As others have said, #1 the sides and back, #2 the top. Do it yourself, buy a pair of clippers and a good mirror to see the back of your head. It looks better now than in the first photos.

05-04-2013, 10:11 AM
If you wanna buzz it #1, i would advice to buzz the back and sides #.5 or 0. Since they will start growing way faster than the top specially if you used the same grade to buzz all your head.

05-04-2013, 10:18 AM
I think you look good and suit the clipper cut. I would blend it from a 2 guard (6mm) to 1 guard (3 mm) a good barber can set the blade to blend between the lengths of both guards and get the classic tapered in cut .

All the best.

I think you can pull off the shaved look for sure. You have an exceptionally strong chin and a good looking face. Keep it shaved down, move on with your life and stay as far away from hair loss forums as you can. You've won the battle! :)

05-05-2013, 12:09 PM
Step in the right direction dude.

Short hair makes you look cleaner and more groomed. I'd say go a 1 on the sides if your doing a 2 on the top. The take home message is you've improved your appearance.

If you can get outside a little more for a tan and maybe leave a small amount of stubble.

Next step???? Build up your upper body size....increase protein intake and try some push ups every day or second day. I found this today (http://imgur.com/gallery/ETv7B)

Next...fashion. Just an idea I had was type in a bald celebrity you admire and paparazzi to see what they wear day to day... I googled Jason Statham paparazzi there and this was an image I got that I thought looked good.
Note I dont know had to add images so I used the linked site

Id go for a 0 on the back and sides blended into a 1 on top, this will minimize how much you can notice the "balding line". Shorter definately looks sharper.

05-07-2013, 12:59 PM
Thanks for the feedback guys. I think I'll end up going for the completely bald look soon enough. The front of my hair is the thinnest part (in the area of the bangs) and since it's thinning I'll end up bald either way so why not?! It would feel good to not have to worry about what your hair looks like ever again.

05-07-2013, 06:32 PM
Soon enough happened to be this afternoon. I shaved a couple hours after my last post. I feel a lot better about a shaved head then I imagined. It looks funny now because my head is so white but that's fixable. I'll post pics tomorrow. Thanks for the advice guys

So i'm guessing you don't want to treat your hair loss with finasteride and Rogain then? Your hair loss type looks like you could be a good responder to the drugs.

Well that does not matter now, you sound happy with the way you look, that's the most important part of balding.

He's a good looking guy, can def pull off the bald look.

However, I would agree with you in that he should at least try. Im also curious about what he has already tried.

definite improvement

05-30-2013, 07:22 PM
Using medication just wasn't a good choice for me. I felt that 8-12 months was way to long for me to wait.

cs2257 - I had never tried anything to bring back my hair growth. I bought the Rogaine program at Wal-Mart but couldn't stick to the regimen.

Well, it's been about 3 weeks and I'm definitely a lot happier with a shaved head. It's funny, if someone cracks a joke about my "chrome dome" or call me cue ball, it just doesn't bother me. Before I was constantly thinking about my hair, and when someone cracked a joke about it, it was very depressing.
Before, I had something to blame my depression on - my thinning hair, but now I have no hair to be depressed about. You do the math.

No hair = No depression (for those who failed math class :P)

Looking back, I can laugh it off. I've received negative and positive feedback about my newly shaved head. Some girls told me straight out they liked my new "style" better. My confidence is through the roof compared to before the shave.

The main reason I came back is to post the shaved head picture I mentioned in my previous post and to say goodbye to forums.

Though, I will stick around to give some feedback to others who are in my previous position. I would have never shaved my head without the people in this forum, and for that, I thank you!

Glad it worked out for you.

06-03-2013, 09:52 AM
Looks great baud.

Can you grow some stubble on your beard? Try it out, I think.

06-03-2013, 12:17 PM
completely agree with all the advice, a little stubble, some natural tan, and set a goal to put on 10 lbs in the next 2 months of lean muscle gains and you'll be set

06-03-2013, 08:39 PM
Looks way better man. You actually look your age now. You've got good facial aesthetics for the bald look. I'll echo everyone's advice and say a little stubble, a moderate tan, and some size at the gym will do wonders.

06-06-2013, 01:07 PM
Working on getting a tan and trying to start working out. Just having a hard time making the commitment.

I would grow a "five o'clock shadow" but I have to be clean-shaven for work.

Thanks for the positive feedback, guys.

06-08-2013, 05:13 PM
You are lucky...you actually look normal bald. I tried it just to see what I look like and I look like a f*cking goblin with my gigantic nose and ears and small head...I'm screwed either way, so the only option I have is to wear a hat or beanie 24/7.

06-08-2013, 05:51 PM
Post pics mate.

I have a smaller head, but shaving close is my only option. I don't know, I'm not terribly happy with it, but I get along alright. Got a new girl recently, she doesn't seem to mind.

We're often our own worse critics, I suppose.

You're not a bad looking dude at all. Buzz your head, work out, tan and eat right and you will be fine.

06-09-2013, 11:17 AM
Looks MUCH better completely shaved man.

Keep shavin 'er down, forget about your hair, work towards improving on other areas in life, you will be fine bro.
