TL: DR version -
What styles have others had that are easy to maintain at home? And I'm don't like any style of crop top, at least not on me.

I could really use some help, as I've tried hair systems for about 18 months now, spending lots of money ordering them and having them cut-in at professional places (only 2 locations in St Louis!!), but have been very unhappy to date. I'm trying it one more time, but if I can't get something that works I cannot justify paying this much and still needing to wear a hat all the time.
I live too far from them Metro area, which is why I desperately need something I can maintain at home after the initial cut-in. I've been buzzing my natural hair every time I re-tape, but at least one side and the back are not blended and look too obvious that it's a piece.
I've tried to find local barber shops that would just occasionally trim my natural hair and blend it, but no one will touch it if i have a system.
