Default Diffuse Thinning?

Having only experienced rapid hair loss in the past month or so, the actual process of MPB is still a new concept for me.

After some background reading, I've discovered what is referred to as 'diffuse thinning' and believe this is the type that is most applicable to me. What I want to know is, are there any differences to this and 'standard' MPB beyond the areas at which hair is lost? Can it still be treated with Propecia?

It's all occurred with in a matter of months. Mainly on the left side of my head, to the point where I can see through my scalp in harsh lighting. My right side still appears somewhat the same, apart from slight recession in the temple area.

I'm just at a bit of a loss where I stand, if this is common or uncommon shedding, and whether normal treatments are required or is it a different condition altogether.

Thanks

You need to see a doctor. It may be hereditary MPB or it may be something else. A doctor who specializes in treating hair loss can help you figure it out.

Where would I find one in the UK? I went to a standard GP who was pretty dismissive and unhelpful, but he has booked me in for a bloodtest and prescribed some anti-dandruff shampoo.

Thing is, although both my Dad and my mum's Dad were bald, both had healthy strands of hair on the sides of their head even into their 50s/60s. I'm getting unusually large amounts of dandruff than I did before the shedding, which even the prescription shampoo hasn't really prevented.

you don't lose the hair on the sides from MPB

There are other possibilities but you need to see a specialist. Many doctors are dismissive about hair loss, even for women suffering with hair loss. It's not fair but that is just the way it is. Try searching here:

Give credit where credit is due. These doctors obviously know a heck of a lot more than you.

It is not likely that the OP has MPB. It is more likely that something else is causing his problem. If he follows this very poor advise from you, he will likely go down the wrong path and bark up the wrong tree - just like you.
