Default 8 months in

Would like to get an opinion from the experienced forum members, Top Cat, Tracy, Spex.etc. Went to my doc today for my 8 month review on my 2300 grafts placed in my front and sides on my Norwood 6 head in Nov 2011.(about 4300 hairs) Have fine hair so there wasn't a great result so far. The sides took up a lot of grafts. The front is not too good. Don't feel comfortable without a hat especially after wearing a hair piece for so many years which I have not worn since I got the transplant. Anyway, doc says she needs to fill in the front and keep moving back beyond that and it will make a difference. She wants to use all of my scalp donor hairs gradually. Like a thousand grafts next time(end of August) and maybe again after that and as many as she can get down the road. No big sessions. says my scalp will heal faster after small sessions and she can get more hair that way also using fue towards the end and maybe body hair after all scalp donor area is gone. Conservative approach as compared to Dr Umar who after sending him pictures wants to do a mega session of 4500 grafts including facial hair. Also as far as future remedy for baldness, she feels that the earliest remedy for baldness is going to be transplanting hair from another persons scalp (like my wife) or a cadaver. They are working on solving the body's rejection factor with organs possibly having to take anti rejection medicine for the first 2 weeks after a transplant and no more. That would mean an unlimited amount of donor hair. have not heard that discussed on the forums. What do you all think about that? Any possibilities? Thanks for all of your valuable input.

Hi Lounk

Have you got any hd pictures you could share ? be good if you have . I would meet with several patients of any particular Dr you consider, and who have had a similar procedure as you are considering ( beard hair etc ) , no use meeting someone who has had 1000 grafts to there hairline if you are going for 3k beard if you know what i mean .

I think your Dr is correct with smaller procedures and proceeding slowly ,would be good if you could meet with prior patients from your Dr who have taken this route , similar graft numbers, beard, body, etc and assess there results , you need a specialist in repair with beard hair with lots of results to see

Re the rejection of another donors tissue thats quite a frightening thought , im led to believe those medicines can really make you ill , its something i would never consider

Take your time and all the best

The conservative approach is always the best in my opinion, mega sessions are for foolish risk takers. Did the doctor explain this plan before you started or is she just now explaining it?

Don’t let guilt or any feelings of obligation determine the best decision for you. It would be helpful to see some pictures. Sometime it’s best to just leave the crown bald and look as normal as possible.

The Dr did the original 2300 to frame my face filling in the sides and placing hair in the front covering old plugs. She wants to work gradually in the front leaving the crown for last using whatever hair she can. I have some plugs in the crown that she wants to remove and spread those hairs around. Last option will be body hair to do fill ins after donor hair is gone. Will be a long process. Just want to get a natural looking thinning scalp for my age. I trust her and have seen her work and she has a good reputation. Hope it all goes well. Thanks for your input.

Thanks ejj. No pics but the Dr is well respected and I have seen her work. She is conservative. Hoping for the best at this point. I will take this to the end.
