Default DUPA and Vitamin D Deficiency

About 6 months ago I went to a hair specialist to get a quote about a hair transplant. Instead I found out I had DUPA and that I wasn't the greatest of candidates for a HT. My sides, though somewhat thin, aren't awful. In fact I hadn't even noticed they were thin until the doctor told me I had DUPA.

While I know most seem to think that DUPA is hereditary, I've gone a mission to find out if there could be another cause. Most of my family has really great hair, and no one has DUPA.

Last week I went to get some blood work done. Everything came in fine, except for my Vitamin D level. In fact the doctor was shocked by how deficient I was. He told me that a normal test would show a range of 30-100 (sorry not sure what the unit was here) and that I came in at a 10.

Could my Vitamin D deficiency by linked to the unusual hair loss?

Here's the top view from about a month ago. I've been using Rogaine and Propecia so it might be a bit thicker now.

yeah it looks like DUPA

I'm sure that it's not from vitamin D deficiency though as vast majority of population is deficient from it....

Hello FAA, did you find out the reason for your DUPA pattern?

Could you show me your bloodwork here? I'll do some research for you and try to find an explanation if you want me to.

Did you get DHT levels checked?

Now that you know that you are Vit d deficient your focus should be on normalizing those levels. The result of severe Vit d deficiency are far worse than hair loss. I have never heard of a direct correlation, but I suppose anything is possible. If it was related and you improve your Vit D levels than maybe the hair will improve also.

well vitamin D does play some role in initiating hairs into anagen phase but I'm pretty sure your DUPA is not from a vitamin D deficiency... as I said, MOST people are deficient in vitamin D and they're not losing hair.... It's a one in a million shot. Yeah get some Vitamin D and see what happens

I have been telling hair loss suffers for years now to get sunlight. There is a trend among balding people being raised far north of the equator.....America, Canada, Russia, Europe...... these places have way less sun light. The reason sunlight helps is because it brings blood to the surface and increases colligen...sP?
