    Dr Rahal Patient - 2084 Grafts - 7 Months

Dr Rahal restored this patient's temples and hairline with 2084 grafts via the strip method

    Age 27.

    The 2084 grafts contained:

    379 singles

    1227 doubles

    478 triples

The after photos were taken at 7 months by the patient himself at home. We hope to soon have some better ones which will do the result justice.

Amazing! And very similar to the type of hair loss I have.

Why was the strip method chosen instead of FUE?

Hi Matt I am going to use Dr Rahal when I have my transpalnt done hopefully at the end of this year start of next I have been speaking to Chad regulary Dr Rahal has recommend me a simiar number grafts. How long realisticly will a 1 hair transplant last. I am between a 2 and 3 on the norwood scale 33 been on propecia for 5 months. Temporal recession and no sign of any loss in the crown.

          Cheers Steve

I really can't answer that. The patient would've had the option, but for his own reasons chose strip. I think strip is still a valid choice even for smaller procedures.

                Hi Steve,
That's very hard to answer. If you're 33 years old and have only reached a Norwood 2-3 then your hairloss is probably not what we'd call aggressive. Propecia use will boost your chances of holding onto your hair. Just going by what I've noticed over the years, it seems like second procedures to fill in newly balding areas are quite uncommon.

So reassuring!! One of my fears is nearing further HTs in the future, but I'm at a Norwood 2ish at 28 so hopefully in the same boat as Steve

Matt can you explain what reasons someone might go for strip rather than FUE?

                    Hi Chrisis,
Cost might be a primary reason for some. FUE as I'm sure you know costs more due to taking considerably more time and effort. Some patients just don't mind the donor scar and are absolutely fine with strip. It's a tried and trusted procedure and still the standard.

People speak about the yield. Dr Rahal is confident that he can achieve FUE yield close to, and in many cases matching, strip (and I think his results attest to this), but lower yield is on his list of 'cons' in the pros and cons list for this method. I don't think yield should play too much of a part in decision making. Some will disagree with that but it's just my humble opinion. Patients are never pushed one way or the other.
