Rogaine questions before starting

Hey everyone. I haven't posted in a while but I think it is finally time for me to try Rogaine. I've had my hair buzzed for the past few months and think it reduces the appearance of any hairloss but i'm still noticing gradual diffuse thinning.

Although minoxidil stories are all over this forum I figure I'll ask anyway, could anyone with experience with minoxidil please share with me their knowledge. Has minoxidil helped you grow or maintain hair? What sort of timeline have you experienced as far as any shed, slowing of loss, or regrowth? and also am I a good candidate for Rogaine if I'm experiencing thinning all around (top, upper sides, hairline)
