Default FUE is here to stay

I have just recently joined this forum and enjoy viewing the discussions. This one is of particular interest to me. I have been performing hair transplants now for 7 years and have become very skilled using the FUE technique. I use the Harris SAFE system and usually use a 0.9mm punch and enjoy performing this technique. Currently, my practice is 60% FUE and will probably continue to grow to more FUE vs FUT. I feel the results are just as good or better than the traditional strip method. Although, there still are good reasons to perform FUT, I think FUE is certainly the wave of the future and there are certain circumstances where performing an FUT is a poor choice. For example, young patients and patients with a history of several previous surgeries with a tight scalp. Also, I have never seen a surgical scar revision work better than FUE implanted grafts into the scar. FUE also is a great option for African American patients and those who like to wear their hair short.

Personally, I have had FUE surgery on my self as well as several FUT's. If I could do it all over again I would have had all FUE procedures.

Prior to becoming a hair transplant surgeon, I was an ICU/Critical Care Surgeon. Now I do 100% Hair Restoration. I'm a diplomat of ABHRS and a member of IAHRS.

Thanks for the input Doc, and welcome to the forum. It's nice to hear more and more Dr's are performing FUE procedures. Something tells me as technique improves, instruments advance, and the demand for this procedure increases, so will the demand of FUE over FUT. I suppose some patients would just benefit more with FUT, and I'm sure they have their reasons for going that route. For me and others who went down that road, we regret it. I'm not going to sit here and bash all FUT facilities because some of the work and closure techniques coming out of places like H&W are impressive. Regardless, I've become a FUE fan and it has played a major part on my scar repair.

Stay active on the forum, many readers like getting the opinion and advice from individuals like yourself.

again, Welcome

Caught only about 20 minutes of the show just when you got on Dr. Yates. You sounded honest and sincere which is exactly what this industry needs.
