When Did You Come Out Of The Closet (Norwood Style)?
My name is Highlander, and I'm a closet NW2. People don't know that I suffer the way I do. I style my hair in all sorts of ways to cover my inferiority. When I talk to people I try to sit facing them with my "good temple".
I dread the day when it becomes so bad that I'll need to come out as a bald loser.
When did you come out as balding? Did you just say "phuk it" one day, and go to uni or work with a combover to show off your Norwood? As if to say "Hey World! This is me! This is the real bald mfker you've been talking to. The one you knew is gone. No more hiding. I'm going to own this Norwood scale of mine".
Imagine a world where we could be open about our norwood scale! Where a gust of wind wouldn't phase us because we weren't hiding anything.
Some days I just want to walk around with my hair in a bun, or combed over, to show off my Norwood scale. I want to walk up to people, grab them by the hand, and make them touch my receeded temples. I want them to FEEL my pain. I want to talk face-to-face with someone about my disease. I want them to look me in the eyes, knowing that in a few years all my beauty will have shedded away into a pile of broken dreams and hair follicles.
I want to come out of the closet.

If you have a hairline like Don Draper most people aren't going to think your balding.
You still have good hair from the sounds of it. Slick it back if you want- no-one will care/notice.

There already is such a world and most men are living in it - because most men are not bothered by their hair loss enough to do anything about it - and they don't freak out over it like you do.

I think about 1% of people, tops, have any clue what a "Norwood Scale" is. And maybe less than that would casually identify a NW2 as balding.

It's just one big lie we're living. We go out in the morning and pretend we're NW1, but underneath the fringe...Underneath the carefully styled and layered hair is a man already half-dead. A NW2.

I know your pain, I'm scared out of my mind when I bring girls to "sleep over" and they might notice my thinning on my hair line the next day. I hate it when I'm having sex and they think its okay for them to run their fingers threw my hair.

I've been a NW2< most, if not all, of my adult life. In recent years I would start paying attention to how well the scalp reached the eye, but I didn't even realize I had any balding genes before 28. I just thought that was the way my hairline was, and I touted a long, ultra-thick front and was indeed very happy with it. Wish I had been bothered, though, in order to start treatments earlier. But I guess NW2 might look a lot worse with some hair types than with others?
I'd still get a hair transplant today, if the scar could be hidden well enough for a #1 guard at the sides.
