Nizoral?
Yeah it works, though not by itself. Apparently its a weak anti-androgen and can help if used with other treatments. 2x a week max is recommended. Over-use can cause scalp irritation and increased shedding.
Nizoral is only cheap and lasts a while so its a good adjunct treatment.

HI,
thought I would add an update to my thread. I've been on fin for 7 months now and still no sides.
I lose about 50-100 hairs a day I guess and I've not seen any noticeable regrowth yet. I've decided to keep my hair pretty short, that way if I ever need to buzz it down then it won't look too drastic!!
Just a curious note to anyone reading this, I know DHT is also responsible for body hair growth, and I have virtually no body hair, even my under arm hair and pubic hair is thin. My hair follicles could be super sensitive to DHT....My thinning hair doesn't seem to be wispy ontop, just less off it. Almost like it's not miniaturizing but the hair follicles are growing further apart. My hair has always been sparse and I will be looking through photo albums to see how bad its got recently.
Anyway that was just a quick update from me... still looking forward to better treatments.

just an update....
bit depressed today. My hair is falling out rapidly, I don't know if this a fin shed or what! It's like my hair is getting worse day on day and no matter what I do it just looks shit!!
my hair is pretty short, like a 5 on top and next haircut I might even go down to a 4.
My mate has set me up on a blind date on Wednesday and although she has seen photos of me, my thin hair looks much worse in real life. I've been texting thus girl loads and she seems lovely. Don't want my crappy thinning hair to ruin it.
if only I had 20% more density I'd be fine ....

Hey mate,
Going a bit like you in terms of hairloss looking worse everyday and feeling really down because of it.
Also in terms of girls, i "just passed" something like you, met a girl a few months ago, the most lovely and beautiful girl i ever had. Spent the first 2 months trying to cover my thinning hair and trying that it doesnt ruin my "approach" with her. I started tryin to make conversation about hairloss with her with some "naive" bla bla bla like "hmm i think i´ve lost some hair this couple months.." hoping to hear her feeling about it. Well guess what, she just said "yeah, i´ve noticed, but i don´t mind, i love you no matter how much hair do you have". And we´ve been to the beach several times and she clearly saw my thinning hair right after diving (sure you might know how it looks!) and she hasnt changed anything about her "feelings" or worried about it. Also i´ve benn giving her the best i have, the best of me, the one who i am.
It might be sad thinking that we´re having this thoughts when meeting someone but, you all know how this works..
So now, despite hair looking worse everyday, i´m staying positive cause there are some nice girls out there more interesting in "us", rather than in our hair.
This of course, adds nothing to the topic, but i just wanted to give you some hope that hair doesnt have (always) to ruin our approach to anyone, specially women, girlfriends. Just give the best you have, the best you are,and don´t think about it. In the end, if you get dumped by her, i´m sure it cant be that terrible because its very likely that you wouldn´t want someone for you who judges people for hair loss anyway. Right?

The same things happening to me. I thought I was doing well, but for the mast 2-3 months something seems to have gone wrong I am in my 15th month of Finasteride.
So freakin depressed, its like the sort that sucks energy. I might give up in a few months or so.
NotDyingBald has great advice for you! You should try and not let hairloss get in the way.

thanks for all the support, this forum is really the only place people fully understand me!
the funny thing is that 2 or 3 years ago I would be so un self conscious I would just chat to any girls and not care about my looks. In all fairness my hair is probably only about 20% thinner than then.
In all truth I know I probably not going to get judged by my hair thickness and hell she may not even notice. But its the fact that I'm selfconcious of it now that it affects my confidence. I just think everyone is staring at my hair, though I doubt they actually are.
khan - can I ask, do you go through shedding periods on fin. Like I said before I've been on fin 8 months and I'm having a bad shed. Can you have sheds that aren't in your first few months of fin?

Shedding isn't a bad thing. it has been said countless times here and other forums. When you shed your hair gets replaced, it never immediately dies out. FACT. Therefore, because of the fact that you're on Finasteride, it is highly unlikely that your hair will shed and return thinner - or not come back at all, because finasteride does the opposite.

I appreciate your response mate. I've read a fair bit about shedding, but it mostly states that shedding happens in the first few months. As my shed is happening in month 8 I was just a bit concerned if this is 'normal' with finasteride.

I shed for the first 1-2months. But from there on things got pretty good. I even gained some ground, and my hair looked much better.
But from months 11-13 I shed again, and this time I lost some substancial ground. The shed has abated (i think) in my 15th month (which is now), but I have lost too much ground from the second one. My temples show alot when its a little windy and even otherwise. Its so depressing.
I think I am leaning towards quitting and just shaving. I am too depressed now, its hard to concentrate on grad school. Its really getting to me, I feel like just shaving and just go into hiding forever.
But if you're in your 8th month, I wouldn't worry too much. Spencer shed for an entire year, and a lot of people do. As long as you haven't crossed that 1 yr mark you still have a good chance.
