Default I have an idea, need some help...

I own a medical device company, and we're developing a wound care device.

The other day, one of the techs comes to me and tells me he has been doing some completely unauthorized "anecdotal" research on his own head with one of our newer prototypes.

It seems that he's been regrowing hair on his temporal recession areas.

It's promising, but highly anecdotal, and it could be anything. I know the device is safe, so I'm not worried about his health.

I found this board on a google search, and after doing a little reading, seemed like people knew what they were talking about. So I figured I'd ask here and see what I get:

Does anyone know if there's any research going on in the area of phospholipid peroxidation to stimulate cell growth factor- in hair follicles?

I've seen apoptosis studies, and some creams mention it. My device can actually catalyze the process, with no pain, and no side effects.

If anyone knows of the research, or has seen studies, please refer them to me, I'd certainly appreciate it.

It might be a wild goose-chase. So I'm sorry in advance.

If anyone wants a little more information on the science, let me know, and I could post some more information on what the device does.

thanks

I am prepared to fund your project in the amount of 5 million dollars.

For what would be a breakthrough in modern medicine and a venture guaranteed to make billions, this would be a very small investment indeed.

All that I ask is you show before and after pictures on this subject of areas marked using micropigmentation using a stereomicroscope of new hair growth, next to an area similarly marked but used as a control, and the timeline of which said growth occured. This can be done at virtually no expense, since you have a willing subject, own a medical device company, and are interested in the field to the extent that you dedicate time to do scientific research on even the lay forum.

Please let me know what you think.

Default Hopes

Is there a forum for scientists only? Then maybe this can be rethreaded...

I am as real as it gets. But don't get your hopes up.

Oh, and thanks for your offer of investment (tonypizza?), but we're pretty well capitalized.

What I really want to know is if the science supports the findings.

Is there already a study that shows that lipid layer peroxidation does not proliferate hair follicle growth?

Again, the evidence that I have is HIGHLY anecdotal, and I'd hate to plunge resources into a dead end. It's not the money, it's the utilization of resources (manpower) that concerns me. As you can imagine, wound healing is a pretty big business.

Thanks again.

There are several searchable academic journals.

www.eblue.org Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology
http://www.europeanjournalofdermatology.com/ The European Journal of Dermatoloy
http://www.e-ijd.org/ The Indian Journal of Dermatology
http://www.wiley.com/bw/journal.asp?ref=0007-0963 The British Journal of Dermatology

There are also resources which scour these and other journals to create a database.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed Pubmed
http://www.thecochranelibrary.com/view/0/index.html The Cochrane Library
http://www.crd.york.ac.uk/crdweb Center for Reviews and Dissemination

These online libraries are popular with medical and dental students more for their clinical value, but they still might be useful

http://www.acpmedicine.com ACP Medicine
http://www/accessmedicine.com Access Medicine

Hope this helps.

I've run a few searches, found some stuff on explanation of lipid peroxidation in hair follicles, just not whether the treatment is effective.

Funny thing is, I can explain why I think it'll work scientifically...

So now here's the problem; If there was existing data besides the "anecdotal" evidence that my tech reports, or at least one reputable scientific paper, I would consider spending the resources to confirm the efficacy of the treatment.

The "concept" to "market" system in the US is so bad, that in all likelihood, this theory and treatment may die with this post.

But I'll keep looking, and perhaps I'll assign one of the summer interns to do some more searching.

If anyone finds anything about lipid peroxidation catalysis regarding hair follicles, that show some efficacy, PLEASE let me know.

Thanks
