Hair and attractiveness. Do men look better with hair?

I was reading People magazine last week when I saw that Matt Damon was voted the "Sexiest Man Alive." My first thought was "he has hair" and my second thought was "I wonder how many bald guys got voted the "Sexiest Man Alive" by People magazine. So, I looked up every year and here's what I found:
Mel Gibson (29, he had hair when voted in)
Mark Harmon (has hair)
Harry Hamlin (has hair)
John F. Kennedy Jr. (had hair)
Sean Connery (bald!)
Tom Cruise (has hair)
Patrick Swayze (has hair)
Nick Nolte (has hair)
Richard Gere (has hair)
Brad Pitt (has hair)
Denzel Washington (has hair)
George Clooney (has hair)
Harrison Ford (has hair)
Richard Gere (has hair)
Brad Pitt (has hair)
Pierce Brosnan (has hair)
Ben Affleck (has hair)
Johnny Depp (has hair)
Jude Law (had hair when voted in)
Matthew McConaughey (36, has hair, some say fake, but still there!)

Only ONE bald guy. Don't know what to make of that, but it seems to be a male pattern

LOL !!! Yes indeed a male pattern for sure. Good eye. Well I'm happy to see Sean Connery made it in. Also you listed Richard Gere and Brad Pitt and George Clooney twice, is that cuz they have so much hair they deserve two places?

Really? Wow it's very realistic. I saw a pic of him a while back and it looked like his hair was different then, further back, and he looked great

How would you explain that The Sexiest Man Alive is always a guy with hair, roughly 25:1? I mean, there WILL be another bald guy to make the list, but still, it's about 25:1.
Most of the hot girls that I know DON'T CARE about a man's hair. As long as it's not a combover or excessive thinning.

I think it totally depends on the shape of the guy's head. When I was a surgery intern, one of my friends and I shaved our heads. Now, neither one of us will win any sort of beauty contest, but my friend Tom had a lumpy head. We were both built similarly and had somewhat similar faces, but I definitely recall nurses paging "one of those 2 bald interns" and designating us as the one with the lumpy head or just the bald one(me). So I suspect that if that actor from the "Transporter" series had an unsightly skull full of scars and pockmarks, he'd probably not be as successful with his current appearance. Conversely, George Clooney has good hair and masculine features, but I personally doubt if a bald Danny Ocean would have been as charismatic.
